Compare and sync folders
Kudos to Charlie for requesting this use case.
“I need to compare two directories (e.g. folders, disks, partitions, etc.) and identify anything that’s present in only one location and/or different between the two. Then I need the ability to review and decide what to do with non-duplicates based in part on the nature of the differences,” says Charlie. We say...meet ChronoSync Express!
Side-by-side file comparison
Open ChronoSync Express and create a new synchronization task
Click Setup and choose two folders or directories you want to compare
Click Analyze in the left sidebar to compare folder contents.
You’ll see green checkmarks next to the files that are present in both folders. Non-duplicates will be greyed out in one of the folders — meaning they are not there.
Sync folders your way
Want to bring duplicates and non-duplicates into one folder? Extract non-duplicates? Or maybe hand-pick files from both folders? ChronoSync Express has all the use cases covered. Without leaving the Analyze tab:
Select the files you want to sync > right click > Synchronize Selection
Right-click the file you want to exclude from the selection > Exclude
Right-click the file > Restore From Right/Left if you want to replace the file in this location with its copy from another location.
With these options under your belt, it’s only a matter of the imagination how you’ll sync and organize content. But it will definitely speed up your flow and declutter your Mac!
