Improve drag and drop and organize your copied items
Drag and drop on Mac isn’t a big deal, but it becomes tedious when you have a cluttered desktop and a lot of folders to go between. So perhaps it is time to simplify things? Here’s how to do it with Yoink.
Let Yoink hold the files for you
Yoink lets you temporarily store items that you drag and drop from the Finder or any other app so that you can use them in other apps later. Simply drag files or other items to it, and they will stay there until you want to move them.
Drop everything
Yoink is capable of handling almost anything you drag to it. Text from a document, photographs pulled from websites, full websites, files from the Finder, and more.
Lock files
When you drag something out of Yoink, it automatically goes away from the Yoink drawer. But you can also lock items so that they stay in Yoink even after you drag them. This could be useful for text or graphics that you use often.
Here’s how you lock the item: locate the lock icon next to your file and click on it.
Get a clipboard history widget
Yoink’s Widget will give you quick access to all copied items.
From the widget, you can copy an item once again, move it to Yoink’s shelf, or pin it for quick access. Here’s how to enable Yoink Widget:
In Yoink’s Preferences, click Extensions
Enable Clipboard History
Customize the number of copied items Yoink should save
From the menu bar, open Widgets > Edit Widgets > Yoink Widget.
Find and pin important stuff from clipboard history
Some stuff inevitably gets lost in the shuffle. Well, not with Yoink! Dig into old clipboard history and find the items you’ve copied a while ago: click Yoink in the menu bar > Clipboard History > Older/Oldest Copies. Or, click Organize to open the Clipboard Browser. Double-click any item in the browser to add it to Yoink’s shelf.
Define the copying rules
If there are apps Yoink shouldn’t copy from, you can add those apps to the Ignored list. Go to Preferences > Extensions > Ignored Applications. Note that security-related apps such as Keychain or 1Password are ignored by default.
