Discord unblocked: The top 6 solutions

My husband is an avid gamer, and Discord is practically his lifeline when he wants to get together with friends for a big session. So you can imagine the chaos when he suddenly can't access Discord because it's blocked. But we've come up with some ways to unblock Discord that actually work. Let me share them with you.

Why is Discord blocked?

We've learned that there are a few main reasons of Discord not opening on Mac:

  • Geo-restrictions. Some regions have laws that limit or ban Discord, which can be frustrating when you're traveling or living in those areas.

  • Network restrictions. If you're at school or work, they might block Discord to help keep everyone focused — much to the dismay of anyone trying to sneak in a quick chat.

  • Technical glitches. Sometimes you'll see errors like "No route," which usually point to connectivity issues that need a bit of troubleshooting.

Once you know about these possible issues, you can take the necessary actions.

How to get your Discord unblocked

Let's see how to get Discord login unblocked and bring it back to life.

Solution 1: Check the network connection

I recommend you start by making sure your Wi-Fi is running smoothly. If things are acting up, a quick switch to a wired connection often does the trick.

Solution 2: Check Discord status

My husband is quick to say, "It might be them, not us." So, we check Discord's status page. There, you can see that Discord servers are currently down. That's when you can't do any troubleshooting. Just wait.

Solution 3: Restart Discord

A simple yet effective move is to completely close and reopen Discord.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Open Activity Monitor on your Mac. Just press Command + Spacebar on a keyboard and type in Activity Monitor.

  2. When Activity Monitor is open, select Discord and click the X at the top.

  3. Close Activity Monitor and check to see if Discord opens or not.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you might have to try other troubleshooting steps.

Solution 4: Restart your Mac

A fresh restart of the Mac can clear out temporary blips. It's become our go-to move. So, when in doubt, restart!

On your Mac, click the Apple menu > Choose Restart.

Solution 5: Reinstall Discord

When all else fails, my husband's ultimate solution is to reinstall Discord entirely. It's like hitting the reset button and often clearing up whatever was causing the trouble.

Note that you can reinstall Discord manually and with the help of CleanMyMac X. The second way is easier. I'll show you both methods.

Here's how to get rid of Discord manually:

  1. In the Finder, navigate to your Applications folder.
  2. Find the Discord app.
  3. Drag it to Trash.
  4. While still in the Finder, click Go at the top and select Go to Folder.
  5. Type each of the following paths into the Go menu, one at a time. Search for any files related to the Discord app. Once you find them, move them to the Trash:
    ~/Library/Application Support
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Preferences
    ~/Library/Logs
  6. Once you've dragged application-related files to Trash, empty it.

Here's how to uninstall Discord the easy way:

For me, the above procedure sounds like too much work. That's why I choose CleanMyMac X. Its Uninstaller module does all the hard work for me. It locates all the files and allows me to remove them with just a couple of clicks. The best part? It can uninstall multiple applications at once. Or it can restore them to their default state if they are not working properly.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Install and open CleanMyMac X.
  2. In the sidebar, click Uninstaller.
  3. Find Discord in the list of apps.
  4. Click Uninstall.

  2. In the sidebar, click Uninstaller.
  3. Find Discord in the list of apps.
  4. Click on arrows next to the uninstall menu. Choose Reset.
