The app begins with a request for a review! Then, when you start to explore how it works, it keeps popping up new windows - atrociously distracting. After the third popup, I exited and uninstalled.

Hey Marc! This is Arthur, I'm one of the founders. We're so sorry you had a negative experience with the reviews. This isn't supposed to happen and is 100% a bug. We're working on fixing it right now. Hope you give us another try! Who knows, maybe you'd consider changing this review as negative ones are really painful for our small team :) If you need anything else, please feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] Cheers!!!

I’m still new to this app, but I see potential. I was a hardcore ClickUp user, and I got fed up with constant AI tools, complexity, and price hikes. Maintaining ClickUp itself was a task. I needed a simple, lightweight, easy-to-use, and clean app where I can just get things done. I’m going to keep trying with the byDesign app and hope to update my review in the future.

I have my calendars and todos in my nextcloud instance. Mails in IMAP etc. So it would be nice to support not only apple, google and microsoft!

I’m a self-proclaimed productivity app junkie; I’ve tried them all- Todoist, Ticktick, Noteplan, Omnifocus, Sunsama, Any.do, Workflowy, Things3, Notion etc. Something about ByDesign’s UI makes it feel like I’ve used this app forever, and that’s the first time I’ve ever had the feeling with an all in one productivity app. It’s attractive and well thought out. I can tell the developers took great care to keep their audience in mind. Really happy to have discovered this through Setapp, and looking forward to any improvements to come.

Hey Jasmin! Your review absolutely made our day. You sound just like us—we're all productivity app junkies too. 😊 We're so glad ByDesign felt intuitive from the start, and we’re grateful you found us through Setapp. Please keep the feedback coming—it helps us keep improving!

The concept behind ByDesign really clicks with me—it's the one approach that’s made the most sense after trying many others. If I could suggest a couple of features, the first would be allowing multiple pages on the timeline instead of just one. I have a list of recurring tasks that tends to clutter my one-off tasks, and it would be helpful to separate them. Ideally, I’d love to have a dedicated page within the timeline just for repeated tasks, so I can view them alongside everything else without the visual overload. Another feature I’d like to see is the ability for notes to retain the formatting when copying and pasting content—or at least offer the option to choose how we want to paste it. That flexibility would make managing and organizing content a lot smoother.

Hey Usbaldo! Thanks so much for the thumbs up and feedback! Just an FYI - you can currently hide your recurring tasks in timeline via the filter. Have you explored that feature by chance? If this is insufficient, would you mind communicating via in-app chat? Just want to make sure we fully understand what you're looking for. Great feedback on the formatting - we'll look into doing asap. Thanks again!!

This is a temporary thumbs up. The overall concept and design looks really promising but no 2-way calendar sync for exchange and gmail means I can’t use it :(

A hidden gem: I was skeptical in the begiining but I was proved wrong - this app is magnificent: it combines time-blocking with GTD, habits, task and notes in the same page (game changer!) plus collaboration and courses. I sincerely urge you to try it out 💪

Hey!!! We're literally releasing 1-way sync this Monday and have full 2-way sync planned for the end of the month. :) We're a small team and are working day and night to accelerate this, but we are sorry for the slight delay. We hope once the release is announced you'd consider changing this review as negative reviews really do hurt our team, and we're putting our lives into building this product. 🙏 Thank you!!!

I use this app for my work task management and I'm very satisfied with it overall, giving it four stars. The best feature is its intuitive user interface. I love that I can simply drag and drop checklist items onto the calendar to schedule them. It's incredibly helpful for organizing my thoughts and seeing at a glance what I need to do and when. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is that I'd love to see the next upcoming task in my menu bar. If that feature were added, it would be a perfect app for me. I've already sent this feedback to the developer and I'm looking forward to future updates.

Thanks so much for the review and the kind words!!! We're 100% going to be adding the upcoming task to the menu bar per your suggestion. We're just trying to decide if we should do it now, or wait until we until we release a fully-native desktop version of the app. Stay tuned and thanks again!!

Let me qualify why I down voted a fantastic app with incredible potential. ByDesign aims to become the #1 replacement for Notion so I read on Medium. ByDesign has built-in capabilities that Notion STILL does not, after tens of thousands of users have BEGGED for them for YEARS such as a PROPERLY INTEGRATED calendar, 2-way sync with Google/Apple Calendar, a beautifully intuitive UI and a support team that actually responds. ByDesign does all this outta the gate. However, it’s just not ready for prime time. There is no dedicated sync/import tool to move all of your data from Notion into ByDesign. The only way to import is horribly ugly and just data dumps with no rhyme nor reason. If you’re starting fresh, it’s certainly worth your time investment. Bottom line, BD has great potential and solid bones. I downvoted it because it went to market too quickly without remembering their prime directive; give Notion users a solid, fully working alternative out of the gate!

Kelley, thank you for the thoughtful review. You’re spot on about the strengths and also about the gaps, especially the Notion import. We moved fast on the core experience and the importer hasn’t caught up yet. It’s something we’re actively working on because we agree it’s essential. I really appreciate you giving ByDesign a try and sharing such clear feedback.

Promising but currently too limiting for me. Some aspects are great: - I love the combined calendar, task, and notes concept - Does a great job with AI to help build out projects and goals - Good task and calendar integration - Pomodoro features are well-designed / useful - Home page view is very visually pleasing and clear - Cross-device syncing and availability of apps is solid Examples of things that need more work: - “Sort of” supports markdown - most things work, but linking between files is cumbersome (can only link to new files vs. being able to create a link to a new / planned file; normal Markdown link syntax & wikilink syntax not supported; markdown task format not recognized) - Markdown import doesn’t work as expected - even with a structured ZIP import, files are oddly nested and don’t retain organization structure - No file template support (such as a meeting template; a status report template; etc.) - Can’t tell of other notes link to current note

Hi Dwayne, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I’m glad some of the core pieces resonated with you. You’re also right about the areas that still need work. Markdown support, linking, and import structure are all things we’re actively improving, and your notes line up with what we have planned. I really appreciate the clear feedback and hope we can earn another look once these parts are in a better place!

I think I’ve tried every attempt at a “all-in-one” task and project manager … and cast them all aside. Partly, because I have ADHD, so I tend to constantly try new apps that never seem to fit. I find ByDesign stragely comfortable. Its structured on the same premise as apps like Routine and such, but the partitioning of the different kinds of tasks (without extra work) eases my brain. Especially the dashboard. It just sorts things, so I can focus on what I need at the moment. Also, this is probably the best gamification I’ve seen. Todoist Karma points is pretty lame and does not realy motivate the ADHD brain.

Resposta do Desenvolvedor

7 de ago. de 2025

Hey Lance — this means the world. We know how hard it is to find tools that actually work with how your brain works, not against it. The fact that ByDesign helps ease that load, especially with how it organizes tasks without extra friction, is exactly what we hoped for when we built it. Also love your take on gamification. We’re always thinking about how to make progress feel rewarding without being gimmicky, especially for brains that need clarity and momentum, not distraction. Thanks so much for sharing this. You made our week. 🙏

Has a lot of potential UPDATE TO APPLE CALENDARS - they no longer need to be public. This makes things more secure and simpler - great news. The app is becoming really powerful. There’s gamification :-) There are many templates, habits to add :-), and courses to access, which is a brilliant idea. Take it slow, it’s easy to add too much and get overwhelmed.
