Can’t store mindmaps in the file system, so they cannot be stored together with all other files of a project, don’t go into the same backups etc. That is a major impediment for using that app in a professional context. App description does not make that clear, and also does not explain at all what is different to Mind Node Classic.

I really don't understand how developer thinks they know how I manage and structure and use my files and the workflow I use. Not being able to locate my files and have them stored in some invisible iCloud folder is a no-brainer show stop, for me. I installed this work with it for five minutes before I figured out that file storage is invisible and hidden and then promptly deleted it.

Hello Zeppo. MindNode Next stores the documents in a database and not a file on disk. If you rely on files, we recommend you stick with our MindNode Classic app. We would also love to learn ([email protected]) why files are crucial to your workflow so we can adapt our strategy in the future. For example based on user feedback we recently added Alias that can be added to Finder/Files to directly link to MindNode documents. – Markus

I’ve been using MindNode for many years. It’s my go-to app for structuring my thoughts and organizing large projects. I appreciate the convenience that MindNode Next offers. I’m free to create a mind map and access it on all my devices without having to think about where it’s stored or what file name to use. I also appreciate that MindNode Next supports collaboration.

MindNode Next: An ambitious roadmap with novel new features is leaving simple functionality in the dust. Unless collaboration, AI and VR compell you, stick with Classic. Better yet, use a feature-rich text outliner (e.g., Bike) alongside a dedicated visualization tool (e.g., Miro, Whimsical). It’s an amazing idea to combine these two concepts, but MNN isn’t at the point where it does either especially well.

Next with setapp is a big deal! but the reason I cannot update completely from classic is the missing of the quick entry, it’s always good to lightly brainstorm some new idea without heavy distraction like opening a new huge window on screen. Please bring it to the Next Version.

This app used to be nearly perfect. It did one simple thing very well. I have so many MindNode docs and now the new app wants to put them in document jail. I rarely use the Cloud and prefer to selfhost. Too bad the "moderization" ruined a great app.

Would you like to share why you prefer managing your documents outside of MindNode? We believe the new system offers many advantages, but we also plan to expand it to better support different workflows. In the meantime, we recommend continuing to use MindNode Classic — we’ve recently updated it to support Liquid Glass, and it will remain a great option for users who prefer direct file management. — Markus

Used to be a great app. Well, emphasis on “used to be”. Now, I can’t even open any of my previous Mind-Node Documents, regardless if I'm using the Mindnode or Mindnode next app. Bonkers! Oh, and in other news: There aren't any. Same Interface, same workflow, just a little overhaul regarding the UI. Getting the customer less for more (money) seems to be the trend in the App- Development industry. I'm really saddened, that another “essential” app is choosing this path.

Could you please send us an email at [email protected], so we can take a closer look at what’s happening? Regarding your other comments: MindNode Next includes many improvements, such as conflict-free syncing, live collaboration, AI features, and new export options. We’d love to know what features you’re missing or what you’d like to see improved. Also, since both MindNode Classic and MindNode Next are part of Setapp, you can use both without any additional cost. - Markus

I’m really happy with this new version of MindNode. Partly because I can now have the same mindmap open on two computers without sync conflicts, and partly because the custom theming now works at multiple levels of nodes. The old MindNode was great, but I find myself using, enjoying, and relying on this new version more than ever. Hell yeah.

This app looks nice but when I edit an item and press Enter, the input source automatically switches from Japanese to English every time. This is really inconvenient.

It is a horrible idea, to obscure the file location and store them in a custom cloud. I want my files back! I’ll decide how, where and when I want to share them.

Our new document system was designed to fully eliminate the syncing issues some users encountered before. Just to clarify — MindNode doesn’t use a custom cloud. Your data is stored securely and end-to-end encrypted using Apple’s CloudKit, not on our own servers. — Markus

MindNod Next in my Opinion is only a move to force people in to a subscription model. Using MindNote for many years, but the company puzzles me with their different version, different names, just to get around lifetime versions I purchased some time ago. What is MindNote Next now versus MindNote Classic? I can't see really much different features, which would make sense to call these next and not just provide some little upgrades to Classic.

Hello Stefan, We released MindNode Next as a separate app because we needed to change the way documents are stored. This was essential to support new capabilities like conflict-free syncing and other modern features. We didn’t want to disrupt anyone’s existing workflow, which is why we chose not to replace MindNode Classic automatically. Since launching MindNode Next a year ago, we’ve continued to maintain and update Classic (including a recent update for macOS 26) and expect it to work well for many years to come. As for new features, MindNode Next now supports live collaboration, integrates with Apple Intelligence, offers improved syncing with Reminders, a new flexible layout, and greatly enhanced automation via the Shortcuts app… with many more features on the way. — Markus
