It should connect automatically if your Setapp desktop app is running and logged in. That said, this flow shouldn't be blocking or confusing — we're improving it so it's smoother and only appears when you first use an AI feature rather than at launch. The background removal works via AI generation, and in some cases the exported result may show a checkerboard pattern baked into the pixels rather than true transparency. This is a known issue we're actively fixing to ensure proper alpha channel output on export. That said, AuraFx is designed as a workflow-based editor you can chain multiple actions successively (remove background, then add a shadow, swap to a new background, adjust lighting, etc.) to build a complete result step by step. It's not just a one-click background remover it's a full creative pipeline. We're also working on a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) option in an upcoming version, giving you the choice to use your own AI API key for more control over quality and model selection. Once you Remove BG on an image, you can chain many follow-up actions on the same result without re-running it: add shadows (soft, hard, floating), swap to white/black/gray backgrounds, apply reflections, color enhance, upscale, generate a virtual model scene, or run a full E-commerce Ready / Hero Product preset — all in one session. The credit cost adds up to one full transformation rather than per-click micro-charges. I hear you on cost. Two updates in the pipeline will help: Lightweight local processing for simple tasks (basic upscale, denoise, crop/aspect, white BG fill) so they won't touch your Setapp credits at all. BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) — you'll be able to plug in your own generative AI API key (Gemini, OpenAI, etc.) and pay providers directly at their raw rates, which works out significantly cheaper for heavy users. We route requests through Setapp's AI infrastructure and credits charged are determined on their side. I'm raising this with the Setapp team about per-operation pricing for image generation. On quality — if Remove BG didn't produce a clean cutout, please email the original photo to [email protected]. I'll investigate personally and tune the model for similar cases. What's coming: a new version with BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) — plug in your own Gemini/OpenAI key and pay providers directly at raw rates, far cheaper than credits. Vous avez raison le problème vient du fait que le modèle AI génère une image avec un fond en damier "dessiné" dans les pixels au lieu d'un vrai canal alpha (transparence réelle). C'est une limitation connue de la génération AI que nous sommes en train de corriger. Nous travaillons sur un meilleur post-traitement pour garantir un PNG avec une transparence réelle à l'export. Par ailleurs, nous préparons une version qui inclura l'option BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) vous pourrez utiliser votre propre clé API pour les modèles AI, ce qui vous donnera un contrôle total sur votre consommation de crédits. Hi Tom, thanks for flagging this — sorry for the export confusion. AuraFx is built as a workflow tool, not a single-action editor. After Remove BG you can stack consecutive actions on the same result without re-running it: add Soft / Hard / Floating Shadow, swap to White / Black / Gray BG, apply Reflection, Color Enhance, Upscale, or run a full E-commerce / Hero Product preset — all in one chain. On the export issue you describe: when exporting a transparent result, please make sure the export format is set to PNG (not JPEG/WebP) in Settings → General → Default Export Format. JPEG flattens transparency to white/black and can leave a residual background. PNG preserves the alpha channel cleanly. If you're using PNG and still see a "fake" alpha, please send the original + exported file to [email protected] — I'll investigate personally and fix it in the next update. Hi, sorry about that! This error usually means the connection to the AI service couldn't be established. A few things to try: 1.Make sure your Setapp app is up to date (the latest version is required for AI features). 2.Check that you're connected to the internet and not behind a restrictive firewall or VPN that blocks HTTPS connections. 3.Try quitting and reopening AuraFx.
