Versión de la app: 6.3.1

It’s a buggy mess ever since the Tahoe BETA update. From the menu bar freezing, deorganising the icons to the screen capture ruining my mouse focus every couple of seconds.

Versión de la app: 6.3.1

I am still using Bartender 6.x but I am changing my rating because it is at v. 6.3.1 and it STILL is buggy as hell. When I go to check my layout, it just cycles as if it is looking something up. It never resolves. Bartender still slows the system down as it seems to randomly decide to rearrange things. ARGHH!!

Thanks for being a Bartender user, we’re really sorry to hear how frustrating this has been. Since you’re already on the latest version, Bartender 6.3.1, the behavior you’re seeing when checking your layout and the random rearranging can be related to Bartender re-indexing and rearranging your menu bar items. During this process, it may appear to loop or cause slowdowns, but it should settle shortly afterwards once indexing is complete. That said, it definitely shouldn’t feel unusable. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look into what’s happening with your setup in more detail. Screenshots or any additional details you can share would be really helpful, and we’ll do our best to get this sorted out for you.

Out of Beta, but still struggling. Apps disappear and/or won’t stay put. I’ll likely try it again in few months. Right now I’m using a mini where it isn’t that important, but I plan to get a Macbook.

Thanks for being a Bartender user ,we appreciate you giving it a try and sharing your honest feedback. Since you’re already on the latest version, Bartender 6.3.1, apps disappearing or not staying in place can happen while Bartender is rearranging and indexing your menu bar items. This behavior is required during that process, but it should settle shortly afterwards once indexing is complete. That said, we understand how frustrating it is when things don’t feel stable, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can take a closer look at what’s happening on your setup and help get things sorted out before you give it another try.

Update after developer response: The 6.3.1 update fixed the system resource issue for me. Bartender still uses a bit memory than Ice but this is to be expected as it has more features. I’m happy with it now! Ice is still a good alternative but I give Bartender a positive recommendation as well. My original review: Works fine functionally but takes an exorbitant amount of system resources for its intended purpose. I recommend Ice Menu Bar instead.

This was one of the best utilties out there, but the Tahoe update has been a mess of weird cursor and icon behavior and CPU/memory usage. While I was a diehard user for years, I can’t reccomend Bartender in good conscience for now.

Thanks for being a Bartender fan! For the weird cursor movement, this is necessary whenever Bartender is rearranging your menu bar items, but it should settle shortly afterwards once indexing is complete. If not, do you mind sharing when you're seeing this behavior happen? Please reach out to us at [email protected] and we'll help you get things sorted out!

New version takes way too muc CPU-time, at random mouse bumps (screen capture at random), touchpad gets disactivated etc. This is an absolute disaster.

Latest version (6.3.0) causes my mac (15.7.3) working very slow. The scroll expereince is glitchy in all the apps: Slack, Safari, Chrome, etc. I had to stop using Bartender :(

It (finally) works properly with Mac OS Tahoe and multiple screens. I’ve been using for almost 10 years and wouldn’t trade it for anything. This app is perfect for managing the menu bar !

It used to work flawlessly but now none of the menu items stay pinned. It’s a useful app and I really hope they can get it working properly again.

Thanks for being a longtime fan of Bartender, we really appreciate you sticking with it and sharing this feedback. Since you’re already on the latest version, Bartender 6.3.1, the pinned menu items not staying in place can be related to Bartender re-indexing and rearranging your menu bar items.

Why does the menu bar even need to be rearranged? It didn’t behave like this before. Having my mouse suddenly taken over while I’m working is extremely frustrating. This is not something that should ever happen to users, regardless of “indexing” or background processing. Saying “it will settle once indexing is complete” doesn’t solve the real problem. The problem is that the app interrupts active user input in the first place. That kind of behavior should be avoided by design. I’ve been using BarTender for a long time, and I really liked it. But lately it has become so intrusive and distracting that I felt forced to write this review. I understand that Apple updates can cause a lot of headaches for developers, but please listen carefully to what many users are saying. Also, if people already took the time to write reviews here, why do they still have to contact [email protected] separately? You are already here. You can read what is happening directly from your users.

Stop stealing my mouse!! I will be working hard, and suddenly my mouse no longer functions. It’s stuck in the Apple menu because Bartender grabbed it while it rearranged the menu. This happens anytime there’s an update to a hidden item. It’s truly distracting. I’m starting to look for an alternative. Bartender is one of the main reasons I subscribe to Setapp. I will update this rating if the app improves.

Became very bugy thru updates. I just deinstalled it. _______ My first review, some versions ago: Awesome App! What I like probably the most, is that you can seperate the menubar in a left and a right part. I never even thought about it, but I love it!

On the latest version on Tahoe, it’s super jumpy and laggy. None of the “hidden” items actually hide and the whole thing constnatly refeshes. RAM usage goes mental after a while :(

It used to work well, I mean "used to," but since it pushed me version 6 Beta, it has become really abnormal. I can't properly arrange my system bar icons anymore, and dragging causes the cursor to jitter uncontrollably. Moreover, all the icons display as a single gray square. I have to quit and restart the application, but whenever I perform any dragging, the icons revert back to squares. The most strange thing is that I actually use version 5 on my other Mac, and this version 5 works much better. However, I have never found a way to go back from V6 Beta to V5. The experience of using V5 and V6 at the same time is both fragmented and terrible. Please let me switch back to the stable version. I have never applied for any Beta testing, and this is surely the worst experience.

Thanks for being a longtime Bartender user, we’re really sorry to hear how frustrating this experience has been, especially since you didn’t intend to be on a beta version. Since you’re currently on Bartender 6.3.1, the cursor jitter you’re seeing while dragging icons can happen when Bartender is rearranging and indexing your menu bar items. This behavior is necessary during that process, but it should settle shortly afterwards once indexing is complete. That said, the icons appearing as gray squares and the repeated need to quit and relaunch definitely isn’t expected, and we understand how disruptive that feels especially when comparing it to your experience with Bartender 5 on another Mac. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look into your specific setup, confirm whether you’re on a beta build, and help you get back to a stable configuration.

BarTender has been one of my ‘always installed apps’ for many years but now nothing seems to be able to tame the issues with Tahoe menu bars on multi-screen setups. The bar works on a single screen but on multi-monitor setups, some of the icons on ‘inactive’ screens is a mess of some icons being visible and most greyed out. I can’t add a screenshot here but it’s an annoying mess. Looking at my menu bars right now, on the main MacBook Pro screen that I am using, the full menu bar is visible, but on my 2 additional screens, i have a couple of icons that keep flickering as almost visible and then not, then one icon is visible, then about 5 blank spaces, then the battery icon, then a space (where an icon appears on the active screen) then the wifi and volume icon, then a space, then the 2 slider menu (for quick access to tools) then the date and time. It’s a mess that probably isn’t doen to failings of BarTender. Just an unsighly mess.

Doesn’t work without access to screen recording. I understand that some features may require this permission, but it would be great to be able to use the subset of features that don’t require it.

Respuesta del desarrollador

14 ene 2026

Hi Pascal, totally hear you, but wanted to give you some context on how Bartender works so you can understand why we need screen recording access! Bartender needs to record your screen in order to make adjustments to your menu bar; however, all of this is done locally meaning no one can see your screen. Hope this helps!

I have used bartender for years and it is a consistent source of annoyance, it consistently glitches and has to be restarted. Frustatingly it is the only menu bar app with mutliple profiles. However after upgrading to Mac OS Tahoe it is so glitchy it renders my computer unuseable. Switching to ice. Developer please get your stuff together and do better
