Nice! I was hoping for a quicklook preview, but the app does not offer one unfortunately. For the present agentic workflows, where AI agents constantly spit oz Markdown, the possibility to quickly just paste some Markdown into the app would be very useful!

50% CPU usage on idle. - open a simple Markdown file - close the view - the app sits open in the Dock - open Activity Monitor - 30 - 50% CPU on an M2 Pro. Around 20% if it’s feeling generous This is either incompetent developers, crypto mining, or AI slop. Neither is very compelling. - they are using a WebView, effectively a web browser, to render Markdown files. - copy-paste from markdown looses all formatting

Bottom bar is hard to see and the app doesn’t seem to solve any problem that isn’t solved in other apps and is missing details that about the content it is displaying. Apps that focus on specific formats, like Marked for markdown, are much better at displaying them and giving useful functionality. Trying to pull every format together and reducing functionality isn’t very helpful.

I am genuinely impressed by Telescopo’s performance and privacy standards. I stress-tested it with a massive, data-dense SVG, and the engine handled the rendering flawlessly. Biggest win: Zero outbound network requests. Seeing a developer prioritize local privacy is a massive relief and a huge selling point. Some constructive feedback: - SVG Zoom/Pan: Please extend zoom beyond 200% and smooth out the "grab-to-pan" jitter (currently jumpy compared to the smooth scroll-wheel movement). - A setting to close to the default window rather than quitting the app would be ideal. - Adding the ability to set a custom font would be great. - JSON: This was unfortunately unusable for me and rendered with a serif font. I suspect I am an edge case with my massive JSON documents, but a monospaced font and more robust tree-view handling would help. Markdown and PDF rendering are spot-on. Excited to see this evolve!

Yet another SwiftUI slop. Just one example: text can be selected, but the selection has no context menu. Markdown support is rudimentary at best. A *dedicated* viewer should be capable of more than the basics. YAML is displayed as-is. Footnotes are not recognized. Code blocks have no horizontal scrolling and are simply clipped. At this point, I uninstalled the app.

broken Mermaid rendering - shows only codeblocks instead of a diagram! Summarization doesn’t work because the document is “TOO LONG” no TOC for markdown for easy navigation… all in all a very sloppy implementation of a markdown viewer

The UX is very difficult to read, the transparent bar at the bottom is impossible to see, it’s a distraction from the text. To get support you need to create an account and sign it — too much trouble in 2025, I don’t want another account to have to remember and manage. The problem is not with Tahoe or liquid glass, though I’m sure that makes it worse. The problem is with the toolbar itself, especially on a dark color scheme for the documents (or any that matches the system’s color scheme). The location of the bar at the bottom, and the subtlety of its design, makes it very difficult to use. You can see it clearly in the screenshots, the toolbar is difficult to read, and as you scroll through documents, more so. There is no contrast, and this was done on purpose. For an app that is essentially about viewing, it should focus on visibility and not coolness.

Tried it out with a few files and its display was worse than Finder’s quick preview. Immediate uninstall.

I downloaded this app to get QuickLook previews for various file formats but it wouldn’t work. I checked under Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions > By Category > Quick Look and couldn’t find Telescopo to enable QuickLook, also no option to enable QuickLook under the apps settings. If this is fixed then I would love the app, and change my review.

Telescopo - No support for very basic numbered lists in Markdown - No full support for Markdown 1.0.1 (Gruber 2004) - CSVs with semicolons as separator not supported (shown as plain text and not as a table) - No drag & drop to the app window (only to the launch icon) - Zoom only up to 200% via Shortcuts and controls. (That's low esspecially for SVG files. PDFs can be enlarged further via the context menu.) - Zoom per trackpad gesture is almost impossible to control (too large jumps) - Does not use the last window size when opening a file via drag & drop to the launch icon - Incremental search does not "go to next/prev match" (Cmd+G in standard search) - Option to always open new files in tabs is missing (you have to do that manually) - Support requires registration Because of the high number of supported and partly somewhat exotic file formats I would prefer to give it a "horizontal thumb"... but for a "thumbs up" it's not ready yet.

It seemed really promising and I was looking for a Markdown viewer, but the app can't even display numbered lists correctly. Numbered lists!
