Here’s how I imagine this app working: it lives in my menu bar, and when I’ve got an image with some text in it, I click the menu bar icon, which gives me a tool to select the area of the image containing the text. And then I can send the text to my clipboard or whatever. Here’s what actually happens: it’s not in my menu bar. I search for it with Alfred and then it appears in my menu bar. I select it, and then nothing happens. I search for it again and now it’s gone from my menu bar. In Finder, I go locate the app and double click to get it to activate, and nothing happens. I open Setapp to check for updates, and it’s already on the latest version……. five minutes have passed and no text has been selected.

This app feels like magic every time I use it, and it’s getting just about as common as cmd+c for me at this point.

No problem grabbing text from PDFs, however, the OCR function is only correct about 80%-90% of the time on decent quality documents. On mediocre documents, the correctness drops to 50%-70%.

Amazing, take any text, even uncopyable, and copy it. What else do we need?

For the past couple of months, I’ve been constantly getting errors like this: Optional(TextRecognition.CRImageReaderError.e5rtError("e5rt_execution_stream_operation_create_precompiled_compute_operation_with_options call failed", 13)).. UPD: Thanks for the new macOS 27 update. Hopefully, the issue is fixed now. If it happens again, I’ll let you know.

This app is a must-have in your menu bar that I use daily. It’s perfect for capturing text from graphics or flyers without retyping. For instance, if you need to copy an email address from a graphic, even if it’s not clickable, I just highlight it with TextSniper and paste it into my email. It’s versatile and helps me avoid remembering too many details—just click to copy, highlight what I need, and paste. A truly invaluable tool for many tasks, making my workflow smoother and more efficient.
