Update: Thanks I fixed the privacy permissions. But still finding performance to still be pretty slow on my machine unfortunately. Not sure if that’s my setup, or the new Tahoe OS which did affect peformance for me. - I’m trying this app but I’m having performance issues on my M1 Pro MBP, which is a little unexpected. There is a noticable delay before DFX takes over the open/save dialog and there are some boxes flickering in and out before DFX has fully taken over the dialog box. It seems a really useful app that I would like to use. But I’m finding the above is slowing me down a bit.

Nothing in Setapp will improve your productivity more than this app’s seamless, easy Finder enhancements. It saves me at least 5 minutes every day.

Not sure why, but this app has gotten quite slow despite being on a fully spec’d M3 Max with plenty of space and memory. Great in theory, but too laggy to be useful. Grabbing and draging the icon from the Menu Bar of the Finder window to the “Save As” dialog is faster for me.

I'm sorry for the trouble. I've seen these sorts of slowdowns when the macOS privacy database gets damaged or corrupted. Please follow these steps to reset Default Folder X's entries in the database - that should get it back to normal speed: https://stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/faq.html#tccreset

The functionality works very well and saves a lot of time switching between folders. However, this version has some lag when changing folders. I didn't experience this issue with previous versions I've used. I hope this can be improved in an update.

Thanks! I'm happy you find Default Folder X useful. You can make Default Folder X's toolbar less intrusive by choosing the "Small Toolbar" style in Default Folder X > Settings > Open & Save > Appearance.

Default Folder X ist fürs ernsthafte, intensive Arbeiten am Mac seit Jahren unverzichtbar. Erst die vielfältigen Erweiterungen, die Default Folder X bereitstellt, machen die Arbeit mit dem Finder erträglich. Ich empfehle Default Folder X allen Mac-Anwendern.

I'm sorry for the trouble. There shouldn't me more than a half second delay between the appearance of a file dialog and the appearance of Default Folder X's controls (there's always some delay because DFX has to rely on the system-provided Accessibility notifications to be alerted that a file dialog has appeared). If it's slower than that, it's usually a result of your system's privacy database being confused - that can delay the notifications. In that case, follow these instructions: https://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/faq.html#tccreset

I'm sorry Default Folder X is causing performance issues. This usually happens when there are problems with the macOS privacy controls (the system's database gets corrupted pretty easily). Resetting the entries for Default Folder X usually resolves the problem - the procedure is detailed here: https://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/faq.html#tccreset

Great! Helps being more efficient. Small thing: Maybe the default templete should be ‘system’ instead of the old fashioned grey colors. Maybe the icons can be a bit more matching with the OSX theme.
