The app is okay when it works. The app has strange, unintuitive UI. What I hate the most is it requires to initialize a model (almost?) every time I start the app. And it takes forever to initialize the Large-V3 model on my M1 Pro.

Happy to change my rating once there’s an update that lets the app remember my choice for the offline model, so I don’t have to select it every time it opens. I understand you’re working on fixing the crash issues, and as a regular user, I’m patient about that.

Very poor app. This works once when you first open ity. For all subsequent recordings it fails. There are so many bugs I don’t know where to begin. Avoid

V3 has made a beautiful app even more majestic! ALL ACADEMICS TAKE NOTICE!! This app’s accuracy is unmatched in terms of dictation. UNMATCHED! To prove this accuracy please can we note that this app is able to correctly identify names such as Halbwachs, Deleuze, Guattari and Foucault. What a dream not to constantly have to edit a piece of transcribed text every time I mention a philosopher.

Cannot get it to work at all. Been trying for a week and every file I upload FAILS. I’ve tried every one of the different engines, I’ve split files, I’ve converted to different formats and it either sits there for a week on 83% or immediately fails.

I really love Murmurtype — it’s been a great tool for me and I rely on it often. That said, I’ve run into a major usability issue. If Murmurtype is open on my computer, the area of the screen covered by the “Recording in Progress” button becomes completely unclickable. This happens even when the app is not actively recording, which makes it very disruptive. The only way to regain access to that part of my screen is to fully quit the application. If the “Recording in Progress” button only appeared when Murmurtype is actually recording (or if it could be moved/dismissed), it would make the experience much smoother. I wanted to share this because otherwise I’ve really enjoyed the app, and I’d love to keep using it without this roadblock.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback — it really means a lot! 🙏 That particular bug with the “Recording in Progress” button was reported by another user and we shipped a hotfix a little while ago. From your note it looks like you’re on App version 3.3.12, but the current release is 3.3.16. Updating should resolve this issue. I’ve also added quite a few interesting improvements since then, so I think you’ll notice some nice changes. Really appreciate your support — it means a ton. I use MurmurType for transcribing text. It does a decent job. That being said, I see some issues and bugs in the app. The process of reporting bugs is buggy itself and I didn’t see a way of solid communcation with the developer even from his web site.

Ali, thank you so much for the kind words and for still recommending MurmurType despite the issues you’ve encountered — that really means a lot. You’re absolutely right about the communication trouble. I recently added a messaging system to the website, and honestly, it hasn’t been performing well. I’ve seen cases where messages go missing even after I respond — so your feedback here is spot on. I’m actively working on both fixing the bugs in the app and improving how users can reach me. Bad to worse. Initially, I was impressed by the updates, but lately I have seen this app get worse. I've got it hooked into my OpenAI account, so there's no problem with that, but the amount of times it says it's detected silence and stops recording, even though I've had my sound settings window on the screen and it clearly shows that my computer is hearing me, but the app decides it's not hearing anything. It has become so bad and the punctuation is so inconsistent. This app is more frustrating than useful. I'm not saying it's not useful, but it is so frustrating.

Just installed it, but kept failing with each of the models I chose: error 502 “No cloud_minutes in stored license data” – I have 10/10 AI+ credits remaining though.

Hi Dave, Thanks for sending the error report! I'm really sorry you're running into this issue. I've looked into your account and can see you have plenty of credits available (the system shows you have credits), so this is definitely not a credit balance problem. What's actually happening: You're seeing error messages that shouldn't appear in the Setapp build at all - these are debug warnings from the non-Setapp version that accidentally leaked through. That's my mistake, and I apologize For now: Could you try reinstalling MurmurType from Setapp? This should clear any issues Best Miko

this thing is spot on!! I love that it listens to my voice and not words also coming from the tv or someone else near by! Feb 1, 2024: Coming back in to edit my rating. this stopped working! Im even mad I have to type this out, it was doing sooooo well, but now after i speak, the only thing that gets pasted is the word “You”. This need a fix immediately. I tried uninstalling and loading again but the same issue!! 9/23/2025: Seems like with new changes, there is also changes in pricing. I would usually be able to use this as often as I wanted to after paying for a year subscribtion with SetApp. Now, in order to use this app at the same amount of times, you have to pay additional credit fees. Not cool!

Thanks a lot for checking in and sharing feedback — it really helps me improve the app! About pricing: before, I covered all usage myself, which meant very active users generated more costs than subscriptions brought in. To make things sustainable, Setapp now includes three options: 1. Use your own OpenAI key (unlimited), 2. Use my server (with fair-use limits), 3. Run locally (unlimited). So you should still have plenty of ways to use it — the only limit is if you go past the included cloud minutes. Thanks again for sticking with me through these changes — keeping the lights on while making sure everyone has a fair way to use the app is the goal.
