I gave up. Crashes on record, so I’ve not seen how well it transcribes. Outlook integration pulls in some but not all meetings. Doesn’t support connections to more than one account. Doesn’t include iOS version. High CPU usage. Can’t specify alternative endpoints like Openrouter or whatever. It’s a shame because it looked promising.

Good idea, but I had to remove it because even after I quit the app, it continued meetings alerts and recording in the background without any additional confirmation from me.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the confusion—since Spellar lives in your menu bar, it stays active to help with meetings unless you fully quit via the menu bar icon. You can easily turn off those automatic notifications and recording triggers in Settings or the menu bar so the app only runs when you want it to. We also just released v2.2.0 with a major redesign and much better controls—we’d love for you to give it another try!

For anyone experiencing issues with freezing, crashing, or strange transcriptions, I recommend trying Amie. It's also included in Setapp and doesn't have those problems.

I really like the possibilities it offers in terms of summarizing calls. The only drawback at the moment is that it freezes very often and I have to close the app.

With Spellar, you can capture meeting audio and notes without having an “assistant” appear in your online meetings. Having these assistants appear as a user makes people uncomfortabel and self-conscious, even though all your doing is taking notes. I generally like this app but the latest update (January 2026) has been buggy: Window animations that perpetuaally repeat, required changes to permissions, among others. It seems like they’re rushing updates without proper QA testing. Otherwise, I woudl recommend it.

I’ve tried almost every AI transcription tool out there, but Spellar AI is the first one that feels like a natural part of my workflow rather than an intrusive guest. The 'bot-free' experience is a game-changer—no awkward 'Spellar has joined the chat' notifications to explain to clients. The transcription accuracy is top-tier, even with technical jargon, but where it really shines is the Action Items. It doesn't just list what was said; it understands the intent. I can export these directly to Notion/Linear with one click, which has easily saved me 3–4 hours of admin work every week. If you want to stay present in your meetings instead of buried in a notebook.

Yes, it can be a resource hog. It's doing *a lot*. It also can be persistent, difficult to force quit. All those caveats out of the way, it's the best application I know of for being able to quickly capture and summarize meetings, particularly those that don't have native recording.

It pains me to say this but what was once my favourite app is now useless to me. It crashes constantly even after constant updates and i need to force quit everytime, it doesnt record meetings it used to handle with ease.. i’d much rather have version 1 back any day

For the past few weeks the transcription has been translating text to spanish. Time out errors are daily forcing me to regenerate. Not sure what’s changed, it’s a great software that when it does work gives great analysis even without having direct integration into your meeting software. But until these issues are resolved I cannot recommend it. Update (January 21 2026): No more mixed translations, but unfortunately issues with the software still exist. A 2 hour meeting recording was reduced to just 3 mins even though on the overview screen it shows it as two hours. Software constantly freezes and crashes. As it is currently I can not recommend this software for critical meetings as it’s a dice roll whether or not it will capture your audio in it’s entirety properly.

Muy buena. Me gustaria que pueda identificar a las personas que hablan. Otra cosa que deberian hacer es que no capturen el foco del cursor cuando hacen el “tick” para avisarnos que sigue activa la transcripcion, porque si estamos tomando nota o queremos comentar en el chat eso nos interrumpe el teclado.

Our team is already aware of a few unique edge cases causing this in v2.2.0, and we are pushing a v2.2.1 hotfix shortly to resolve them. Please keep an eye out for that update! I get this message during the launch: blocked user your spellar outdated… toast message error log copy. I cannot move forward. How can I resolve this issue? Screenshot attached. I reinstalled the app from setapp, it did not work. I was using it without any problem till today. Currently using imac 2020 intel

Hi Studio GRIYER — sorry about this. That message appears when you’re on an outdated Spellar build, and Setapp will keep installing the last compatible version until your macOS is updated. Please update your macOS, then open Setapp → Updates and install the latest Spellar version — it will resolve the issue. If you still get stuck, email us at [email protected]

# 2.1.0 After updating to version 2.1.0, the issue where the app freezes when opening meeting reports remains unresolved. Additionally, a critical bug has emerged where neither Apple Calendar nor Google Calendar displays at all. This update offers absolutely no improvements. Did you even test this properly before release? # 2.0.2 It became possible to record normally in version 2.0.2. However, when I display the Meeting Report, the app randomly freezes. I can effectively avoid this with Notion integration. The app’s quality is still low. # 2.0.0 After updating to 2.0.0, Spellar AI stopped working entirely. When I start recording, the app freezes and I have to force quit it. Cards without recordings keep piling up in the folder, requiring me to manually delete them repeatedly. Please let me downgrade to 1.x.

I would love for this app to work but right now find it too prone to errors. It is not reliable. It randomly stops recording meetings while they are still in progress for reasons I can’t determine and the user interface is not clear so that it is really hard to see what is going on and manipulate while you’re actually trying to focus and participate in the meeitng. I just got off an hour-long meeting and the Spellar window was showing recording the whole time, but when it went to process the meeting notes there were only the first 4 minutes recorded.

I have tried. I really have, but his app is fraught with one bug afer another. For one, it will randomly translate English in Spanish (and occassionaly other languages). It’s accuracy in identifying speakers is almost non-existent. I’ve asked it questions about a meeting,such as “What did Person A say about X?” The response is that they did not say anything iabout X. However, when you look at the transcript, Persona A absolutely does speak about X. It’s a great concept, but I can no longer waste more of my time trying to make it work correctly.

To immediately improve the situation regarding the language mix-ups, we recommend manually selecting your primary language in the Settings instead of using "Auto-detect."
