However, it can occasionally run into issues. I've had my fair share of problems, but luckily, I've always managed to get on top of each.

If the Apple Mail app is not working on your Mac, I'll walk you through the most probable causes and the fixes you can try. 

How to fix most common Apple Mail issues when it doesn't work

If your Apple Mail is not working on your Mac, you can go through the best solutions I picked for each issue.

Apple Mail won't open or refresh on a Mac

The Dock has an option for quitting open apps:

  3. Click on it, then click the X button on the top.
  4. Click Force Quit when prompted.

Solution 1:  Force quit with QuitAll

Sometimes, a restart is all you need to get everything working as it should. If the Dock and Activity Monitor methods don't seem to quit Mail's background process, you can use a third-party app like QuitAll.

Since Mail search relies on Spotlight, confirm that the app is enabled in Spotlight's settings.

  4. Type and run the command mdutil –Ea.
