Decent but missing some QOL features like splitting clips with a tool/button instead of having to duplicate them and manually trim out sections. Also, when you duplicate a clip, you have to click another clip and then click back before you can trim that new clip. Overall it’s pretty good, you can put some quick videos together with more modern, cool looking effects very easily. But coming from the video editor world there’s a few features I’d like to see for it to actually be worth using frequently.

Hey Nick, thanks for the review. I'll look into the selection bug. In the meantime you can split clips by selecting them and hitting cmd+shift+d or go to the edit menu and select split. There'll be more features coming but it's quite an endeavour:) Thanks for your patience! Marcus

It may not replace my primary video editor or anything for heavy projects, but I don't necessarily know if it's meant to. What I do know is that it's fun to use and has less friction than, say, current-day iMovie for making quick little videos with pretty cool (and some silly, in the right way) special effects. My stepdaughter is new to video editing and I bet she'd love this as well -- it's like a middle step between CapCut and Final Cut.

⸻ Really confused by this app Not sure who this is supposed to be for, but it definitely doesn’t feel like it fits the usual Setapp crowd. I opened it up and was immediately hit with a nonstop background video of people dancing. It was so distracting that I didn’t even bother trying the actual features. If the product needs a constant dance clip behind everything to seem interesting, that’s probably a sign it needs a different direction. Everything about it seemed very cheesy and not well thought out.

Hey Caleb, Marcus here, the dev behind Riveo. Gotta say, your comments hit home. I find the casualness with which you dismiss my work pretty disheartening - "I didn’t even bother trying the actual features." And yet: "Everything about it seemed [...] not well thought out." It's a truism that there are people behind these apps. You're welcome to take issue with the app and I'm happy to address it, but I'd ask for you to reflect on how you'd want your work evaluated.

No funciona.

Why need acces to messages o camera roll to work?

Risposta dello sviluppatore

15 nov 2025

Hey Ricardo, the camera roll access is so that you can save your videos to the camera roll or bring in photos and videos to your project. The message access is not needed and you don‘t have to give it - the update that's currently in review (3.91) contains a clarification.

This app alone is worth a subscription. What a snag by the Setapp team. Been using this app for a while now and I really love it. The only thing I’d love to see from the amazing Riveo crew is a few more tutorials and clear help sections. If you’ve worked with video editing software before and have a vision, it’s easy and straightforward. If you’re new, it could take a while—which may be good (put the work in to figure it out), but I digress. This is awesome.

Hey Caleb, yeah, the team behind the app is just me and I hear you:) If the day ever turns up an additional hour I might get to it but yeah, as it stands I'm always combating the different needs of the app and there's always stuff I'd rather do than tutorials:p Maybe one day...

I like it. It’s easy to use and I can see producing videos to upload to social media at times I don’t need the capacity of Adobe Premiere. It’s light-weight and a good option.

I have 20+ years experience with photo + video editing apps and this was not easy or intuitive to get started with. I’m not saying it was a mess, but these apps should be the simplest to pick up and get cooking, and I was kind of confused and had to poke around for a few minutes. overall the first impression is negative, the UI is clumsy, nothing is intuitive. I saw all the stuff under the hood + all the cool features included, I feel like maybe so much focus was put on all the dazzling technical innovation that the simple stuff like UI and UX got neglected bc they’re kind of boring, but absolutely crucial. good news is this is an easy fix to just push out in an update and we’re good

Hey kmm, I'm the dev behind Riveo. I'd love to pick your brain around what you find confusing and hard to get started with. If you're game please reach out at [email protected] or via the app. Sometimes you get tunnel vision when working on these things and a fresh set of eyes is always super valuable. -Marcus
