Problematic (but see edit at end). I created several password-protected zips which the app itself couldn’t open (and enither could other zip-related apps like Pacifist). When I saw that, I did a series of tests, including pws like “123” — i.e., no caps, no special characters, no punctuation — and got the same results. Hard to imagine what I could have done wrong, but messy UIs around encryption seems like the kind of thing a dev should have zero tolerance for. The risks here are HUGE. [to the dev: As noted, I was *very* careful to check / recheck / simplify PWs and couldn’t get BZ to open its own PW-protected files. I’ll try it again, and if I get any diff resukts will change this review immediately. I SHOULD HAVE SAID: every other aspect of the app is great!]

Are you sure that it's really BetterZip you are opening the archives with? If you double-click the archive in Finder, it may open with macOS' Archive Utility instead. I cannot reproduce the problem and no other users have reported any problems with encryption in a long time. What other options do you use when creating the archive? You may also reach me by email [email protected]. Maybe send over a small test archive, so I can take a look myself.
