Unreliable. I had search for “MyFileName” and it couldn’t find “MyFileName__ Some Text Here.pdf” or “MyFileName.pdf”. Tried multiple times. When opening “MyFileName.pdf” it actually showed up, but not the other one with underscore. There was some weird option with limit of “recently opened” that also, when changed to no limit did showed this file before I opened (but still not the one with underscore). Renaming the underscore file to something else and back to original name and boom: Now also showing up. Luckly, I was able to caught it on video, so I now I’m not tripping. Maybe it also has to do with being recently opened. Why? No idea. Maybe they are relying on some poor index. In any case, I will stay away from this.

So far, a great addition. I could do most of this in Finder, but the interface is much friendlier.

Pretty helpful — can find some files faster and with much more precision than the default spotlight search. The app could do with a bit of an onboarding process for a smoother UX though.

Bien pratique pour retrouver un fichier perdu dans les entrailles de Macbook. Cette une application qui n’est pas gourmande en ressources et qui rend bien des services.

Good at what it does. A bit too complicated for my daily use, though. Solid app, just not sure if I need its complexity. A lighter version would be fantastic, though

HoudahSpot is amazingly useful. Very flexible. I especially like the ability to export the results of searches – as a CSV file or as SmartFolder. Great app, and a wonderfully responsive developer

HoudahSpot is easy to use and fast. It is one of my must-have apps.

I love how the file name is separated from the extension when renaming (I wish that were an option for MacOS/all programs) but the behavior when using Shift to expand the highlighted text is abnormal/different from standard in that it reduces highlight from the direction selected rather than increasing toward the direction selected. Having the option of using the standard behavior would make HoudahSpot near perfect!

I’m getting used to HoudahSpot. It seems better than spotlight in a few ways: construct and save detailed custom searches, results can include file meta, easy to pull up files and go to files in finder. One glitch, it seems, is if I do a custom search and then start another similar search by changing the word(s) in the tags or name box, HoudahSpot starts searching one letter by letter. This freezes the program and finder. The memory usage goes up to 250 GB (lots of files). One needs to call up a new custom search each time, it seems. Maybe user error, but I can’t solve this issue.

It’s a nice concept, but every time I use it, I first see all the search results I expected. Then, slowly, one by one, they disappear from the results list. Exiting and restarting the program doesn’t bring them back. It seems that it’s the OCR hits that sequentially disappear after being found.

This app searches the Spotlight index, and gives a nice simple interface for filtering results. If your Spotlight is not working, then this app won't work either. That said, it's a great simple app. You can search text inside images.

HoudahSpot is my (working) Spotlight :-)

This tool is amazing for finding the things Spotlight can't. I use it daily.
