Despite the fact I have both ChatGPT Pro and a paid Gemini Pro subscription, TypingMind won’t work with either and instead restricts me to the base models such as GPT 3.5 or Gemini without web search. Trying to use any of the custom agents does precisely nothing because they won’t work with the limited models available so you just get repeated hallucinations and excuses until it tells you you don’t have sufficient credit. Absolute waste of time and such a shame for a promising concept

Update: Have a look at Bolt AI, which is also available on Setapp. I find it better than typing Mind and you can actually sync your devices via iCloud and you do not need to pay the storage fee on a monthly base. I have now moved everything over to Bold AI. Good app with some shortcomings. The biggest problem is that I paid for a lifetime version and to effectively use this app you need to pay 10 dollars US per month for cloud sync and backup. Unfortunately it comes included with only 10MB. So while you may get the version here for free it is not really usable even if you use your own API keys unless you pay USD$ 10 per month for one gigabyte of storage which is an exorbitant price. Not for nothing, the most requested feature is cloud syncing via Google Drive or any other cloud platform. However, the developer does not seem to bother.

I had high hopes for TypingMind, but it fell short. The app's storage requirement is way too high for its limited features, and the synchronization is painfully slow. I often find myself waiting for updates that never come. The interface is confusing and not intuitive at all, making it hard to navigate. Overall, I’m very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend this app.

Lots of errors. The text stutters in chats a lot like it can’t decide where to render the text. The SetApp AIs never work. Yes I plugged in my API key. It’s a shame because it looks like what I needed.

Buggier and buggier. Every other time it will give me some error message, sometimes it works. The frequency of errors has greatly increased of late, and I’ve also been charged a lot more API fees lately… So it seems I’m still being charged by OpenAI when this app fails!

Love parts of it…. have other issues. Biggest issue: Typing Mind can be *SO SLOW*. Currently it is using 105% of my CPU We’ve been using TypingMind for a few years. Overall I am thrilled with the product and having a way to BYOModel. The downside of it is that sometimes it get bogged down and quite slow so I have to archieve chats. But overall, a great product. *WE DO NOT* use the KB product.

Because of the ridiculous charge for more than 10MB of file synchronization, this app is pretty much useless if you use more than one device and want to have content fluidly available amongst devices. I have been an Apple Developer for over a decade and the limitation imposed on storage space by this app is arbitrary at a minimum and baseless to be honest. In other words, developers get much more storage on iCloud than TypingMind implies (without additional fees) per user for synchronization. After all, Apple has a major goal of keeping things within the Apple ecosystem and they are very generous with storage space on iCloud. So, this feels like a money-grab; a way to take their app, on Setapp, and monetize it (againsst the Setapp principles). I will be filing a complaint with Setapp and Apple regarding these deceptive tactics and, in the meantime, recomennd you look at Bolt AI or others (including the ChatGPT native app, for that matter!)

Overall it is a good app, but the interface is a bit confuse and unpolished. Mac and Web version don’t talk too well with each other. I wish there was a mobile app and browser extension to complement it.

It’s a pitty SetApp only has a binary rating system. I’d rate this app 3 stars out of 5. When it works, it’s good. Although I think BoltAI might be more reliable. Still exploring that as an alternative to TypingMind. I am looking for alternatives because TypingMind has some serious bugs in the Export / Import / Sync system, due to JSON issues. Has cost me many hours of time to work around. Also, it has very limited free online backup/sync. Which was fine if happy to just use it on one computer. But SetApp has notified all TypingMind uses that the developers are dropping the macOS app and will be going web interface only. Which means those with more than 10MB of chat data, etc., will be forced to pay $10 / month for more storage. That’s rediculous. The cost will be more than my entire SetApp subscription. So I’ll be moving on from TypingMind.

I don’t see the point of this. If you have ChatGPT+, you can’t use it. You have to use a lesser model. And the agents don’t seem to do anything special.
