Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the confusion—since Spellar lives in your menu bar, it stays active to help with meetings unless you fully quit via the menu bar icon. You can easily turn off those automatic notifications and recording triggers in Settings or the menu bar so the app only runs when you want it to. We also just released v2.2.0 with a major redesign and much better controls—we’d love for you to give it another try!

Hey, so sorry is genuinely painful, especially when you rely on the app for meetings. A couple of things worth trying right now: reinstall the latest version and make sure macOS is up to date. Hey, thanks for flagging this The quit dialog is there to avoid losing an active session, but it shouldn’t be blocking your Mac from shutting down automatically — that’s not how it’s supposed to work.
