Four simple security tips
You've got to be picky about the apps you install and use. Follow these simple habits to protect your Mac from potential threats.
Avoid free online services that ask for your data
There's a huge temptation to use a free online service to convert or compress a file. Don’t fall for it. Get your job done without risking your personal data with these utilities from Setapp.
Your safe file editing toolkit:
Here's what you can do:
- Convert images, audio, and video with Permute
- Convert PDFs to Word and other formats with Nitro PDF Pro
- Compress PDFs without losing quality with PDF Squeezer
- Reduce image size in seconds with Squash
Update your apps regularly
Outdated software is vulnerable software. While we totally understand you can’t manually check every app for updates — not to mention do it regularly — Pareto Security can do it for you. The app has a software update checker that will keep you informed about your app updates.
Pareto Security checks for updates only for recently used apps by default. To make it scan your entire app library, open Preferences > General and deselect the "Update check only for apps used in the last week" checkbox.
If anything seems weird, run a malware scan
If your Mac starts acting slow or there’s any kind of app misbehavior, it’s a red flag. Run a quick malware scan with CleanMyMac X to ensure no malicious software has made it into your system.
Limit your choice
Take a step back and look at your flow of searching for apps. If you narrow down your search to the platforms that only offer trustworthy software, you’ll eliminate all risks. Setapp carefully checks all the apps before taking them on board. So if you want to go safe, go Setapp.
