Things to do before upgrading macOS
The new macOS Sonoma is available for download, but should you upgrade right away? Start with these steps to make sure your Mac is ready.
Check your available storage
The public macOS Sonoma beta was about 13GB, so we suggest you have at least 20 GB to be safe. Open System Settings > General > Storage to see how much free space you have.
Clean up your Mac
Even if free storage is plenty, it's a good idea to declutter your Mac before upgrading. Use the System Junk and Large & Old Files modules in CleanMyMac X to get your machine in shape.
Decluttering your Mac is also helpful for the backup you'll create before upgrading macOS. You wouldn't want to waste time on backing up useless files, right?
Create a backup
This is a must before upgrading macOS. Make a bootable backup of your precious data using Get Backup Pro with an external drive. Now, you're protected in case the macOS update goes wrong.
Use a reliable network
Apple will remind you to plug in your Mac before installing the update. And we remind you to do it over a private and reliable network. WiFi Signal can quickly check your network quality and even recommend the best channels to use.
Now, you're all set. Open System Settings > General > Software Update to install macOS Sonoma.
