Save time with text and image snippets
Find yourself typing the same things over and over? Make a list of abbreviations and the full-text snippets that they represent. Rocket Typist will automatically expand them while you continue typing. Here’s how it works.
Create time-saving snippets
Save words, phrases, or code you don’t want to retype as snippets, and then recall them in any app by typing an abbreviation. Abbreviation? It’s a phrase that expands into your snippet. For example, you can use r + the first few symbols of the word: “radd” for address, “rsig” for signature, etc.
Here's how to create a snippet:
- In Rocket Typist, click the Compose button on the toolbar.
- Type the text of your snippet.
- Right-click on the snippet and choose Change Abbreviation.
- Enter the abbreviation. For example, we used "rsp" for a support message.
- Make sure you have abbreviations enabled under Settings > Abbreviations.
- Now, you can type and expand your abbreviation in any app.
Tip: Right-click on a snippet to change its type. By default, Rocket Typist creates plain text snippets.
Make snippets more flexible
Usually, you'd want to customize some parts of your snippet (think of names, greetings, dates). This is where macros come in handy — they are like placeholders you'll need to fill out before using a snippet.
Let's say you frequently write the same message to two different colleagues. You can add the options macros to choose one of the predefined names.
Here's how:
- When creating a snippet, click the Macro Menu button on the toolbar.
- Choose Options.
- Enter the label for this macro (for example, "First name").
- Click on the radio buttons to name your options. Use + to add more options.
- Click "Update this macro." It's ready to use!
Create image snippets
If you frequently share your favorite meme or cat photo, Rocket Typist can save you time with image snippets. Jump to the Images tab and create a snippet with the desired photo. You can also add an abbreviation, just like with other snippets.
