New iMac 2021: Rumors, release date, and price
Apple Silicon Macs became a huge success. Now, the world wants Apple Silicon iMacs. The recent leaks say the new iMac 2021 will arrive sooner than many of us could have expected. So buckle up! Here’s everything we know so far.
Apple might introduce new iMac on April 20, according to leaks
Apple is holding an all-virtual event on April 20 called “Spring Loaded.” It will mainly focus on the new iPad Pro, AirTags, and AirPods 3. Two credible sources have leaked it on Twitter we could see the new iMac 2021 launch at the event, too. The long-awaited iMac with ARM chip will supposedly feature a new design, with mini-LED and 5 new colors.
iMac 2021 design and features
For the first time in nearly a decade, Apple plans to change the look of an iMac. According to January’s Bloomberg report, the design overhaul will make iMac look much more like Apple’s Pro Display XDR Monitor (remember, the one without a stand). It will have a larger display thanks to a more square and slimmed-down design, although the casing size remains the same.
What we expect from the new iMac 2021:
Apple Silicon chip. Right now, we don’t know if it’s going to be the same M1 chip Apple used for its latest Macs or some new version, but we’re certain that iMac 2021 will ship with Apple Silicon.
5 colors. That’s right, the colors are back! We haven’t seen colored iMacs since iMac G3, and we’re thrilled to have them back. Due to the leaks, the five colors are Green, Sky Blue, Space Gray, Silver, and Rose Gold.
mini-LED. There have been rumors Apple could replace the LED display with mini-LED in iMacs. This would add improved contrast, deeper blacks, and tons of small color improvements for a better visual experience.
Will there be Face ID and 5G?
Many people expect Apple’s new iMac to unlock with Face ID. Indeed, there has been a lot of talk about implementing the feature for MacBooks and iMacs, but, apparently, Apple changed its mind. The recent sources call it “unlikely” that Face ID will be included. 5G connectivity? Same story. We’ve looked into the latest reports and it seems the company won’t be able to ship 5G with this year’s iMacs. But let’s see, Apple is full of surprises.
What’s the price?
We expect iMac 2021 to be priced the same — or at least similarly — to the previous-gen models. It means the price should range from $1,299 to $1,799, depending on the display size. Speaking of which, the new iMac display will most likely arrive in two sizes: 21.5 and 27 inches.
Apple’s spring event will be live streamed on apple.com, April 20 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. Join in to hear why this spring is loaded and see the new iMacs (fingers crossed).
