LazyReel is an AI video editor for Mac built for short-form creators. Drop in raw footage and it handles the rest: animated captions, B-Roll, color grading, and beat-synced text — all ready for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok. Smart Edit lets you cut a word from the transcript and the whole video re-syncs automatically. No timeline scrubbing, no fuss. AI features run on your own API key, so there are no usage limits and your data stays yours.

  • Turn raw clips into Reels and Shorts

  • Edit videos by editing the transcript

  • Add animated captions in seconds

  • Export 4K videos with one click

LazyReel features

Edit by transcript, not timeline

With Smart Edit, you don't touch the timeline. Cut a word from the transcript and LazyReel removes it from the video, audio, captions, and B-Roll — everything stays in sync. It's the fastest way to tighten a clip, and once you try it, going back feels like going backward.

AI captions that actually move

LazyReel generates animated captions automatically and lets you pick from 13+ kinetic styles. They follow every word, match the pace of your audio, and look like the kind of captions your favorite creators spent hours making manually. You didn't.

B-Roll at your fingertips

Choose from 45+ B-Roll templates, drop in memes, or upload your own clips. LazyReel matches visuals to your footage so you're not hunting through stock libraries mid-edit. Everything lands where it should, already synced.

Auto trailers, teasers, and clip splits

Got a long video? LazyReel can turn it into a punchy trailer, a teaser, or a set of ready-to-post clips. It figures out the highlights, structures the cuts, and hands you something you can post — without you watching the whole thing back first.

Cinematic color, zero guesswork

Pick from 11 color presets inspired by cinematic styles and apply a grade to your entire video in one click. No color wheels, no curves, no second-guessing. It just looks good.

    App version: 2.4.2

Super cool—this saved my day! I needed to automatically cut audio and remove filler words within specific timeframes, and this app handled my use case brilliantly. It picked up several filler words and let me edit them seamlessly. The best part is the option to export in 4K without compromising on video quality. I’m so glad to have found this app in the Setapp ecosystem! A few suggestions for the team: 1. More AI Image Models: It would be great to see support for additional AI image generation models (currently, it only supports Google AI Studio). 2. UI Improvements: The split and cut icons are a bit confusing and could be made more distinct.

Thank you, this made my week. The filler-word case is exactly what Auto-Edit was built for, so it's good to hear it held up on real footage. Both suggestions are fair, and the second one especially. On the split and cut icons: you're right that they don't read as distinct, and you're not the first person to say so. Icon clarity is already part of the interface work I'm doing for the next release, and this is a cheap fix that I'd rather get right than leave ambiguous. Thank you for naming the specific pair. On image models: more providers are something I want to support. I can't promise which ones or when yet, so I won't pretend otherwise, but it's on the list rather than in the "nice idea" pile. If you hit anything else, or you have a view on what the split and cut icons should look like, write to me directly at [email protected] Feedback this specific is worth more than most bug reports.

    App version: 2.2.6

This app does not deliver on any of the advertized features. AI-auto editing, video generation - is laughable and unusable in its entirety. It struggles to generate readable subtitles that keep pacing with the VO…. A very very rough and unfinished product that over promises and under delivers

Thank you, and sorry this wasted your time. The captions problem was real: on Setapp, transcription was being given your original footage instead of your edited version, so subtitles drifted out of sync by up to eighteen seconds and deleted speech came back on screen. Non-English audio was worse still. That's fixed in 2.4.2. However I would highly recommend using Scribe for best transcription. The AI features hitting the monthly allowance and dead-ending is the next thing I'm fixing. I won't argue the over-promises point for the version you used. If you try 2.4.2 and it still falls short, mail me at [email protected] and I'll handle it directly.

    App version: 2.2.4

I wanted to like Lazyreel. The transcription-based editing and custom API integration are great concepts. Unfortunately, the app fails where it matters most: the final export. Regardless of settings, exports consistently crash. It either freezes during rendering or loops an "Export failed - Try again" error. I suspected a conflict with the AI background text, but even the app's default test project refuses to export. There is clearly a deep issue with the internal rendering engine. As an agency CEO with a tight schedule, I need tools that save time, not beta-versions that require constant troubleshooting. The app is simply not ready for public release. Until this core architecture issue is fixed, I cannot recommend it and will stick to reliable software.

Hi, thanks for reporting. This issue was caused due to one dependency update to match Setapp guidelines and is fixed in v2.2.5. Sorry for all the inconvenience and it would be very kind of you if you can give it one more try.
